How each one works
A trackable QR code encodes a redirect URL as a machine-readable image. When a user's camera scans it, their device requests the redirect URL, which logs the scan event and forwards the user to your destination — all in under 100ms.
A short link is a compact URL (e.g.,

that works the same way: the user taps or types it, the redirect server logs the click,
and they land on your destination.
Mechanically they are identical — both are tracked redirects. The difference is the input mechanism: camera scan vs. tap/type.

When to use a QR code
Use a QR code whenever users cannot easily tap or type a URL. The classic use cases are physical surfaces where the user is holding a phone:
